Totnes
We create special places and buildings which are both highly sustainable and reinforce local character and identity.
The practice is committed to evolving a humanistic style of architecture through design. We believe this approach has the greatest capacity for creating a positive influence on the social and environmental aspects of people’s lives.
Every site is different and challenging in its own way and the architecture must respond appropriately. Our architects are committed to promoting place-making and designing buildings which are both highly sustainable and reinforce local character and identity.
We also understand that architecture is about much more than the design of individual buildings. Our holistic approach to design, therefore, encompasses all aspects of architecture and urban planning.
Our concept designs are informed by a strong commercial understanding of our clients’ requirements, enabling the creation of high-quality buildings and places. We regularly assist with land purchase by preparing feasibility site layouts and concept designs for site valuation. We favour the use of hand drawing skills at the concept design stage to assist in visioning the scheme proposals and presenting our approach to key stakeholders.
Working across the UK, we are well known to many local planning authorities and have a reputation for delivering planning consents on both challenging and sensitive sites. We specialise in design for residential, mixed-use communities and retirement care. We also design a variety of other typologies including: community and sports facilities, office and commercial, hotels and leisure, refurbishment and listed buildings.
Our technical design department demonstrates an understanding of a commercially efficient build through our in-depth knowledge of construction and buildability. This results in the capability to deliver concise, clear, and accurate information. Thrive can work either as lead consultant or as an integral part of the design team.
