Francis Gardens

This development is within walking distance of Winchester City Centre and was completed in 2014.

The site comprises two adjoining fields separated by a retained semi-mature tree belt. The southern field is a designated Special Area of Conservation and includes a nature reserve garden with a path to Nuns Walk, the River Itchen and town centre. The northern field accommodates 90 houses and was carefully laid out using traditional building forms arranged in streets, squares, greens, mews lanes and shared surface rural lanes. High quality materials were used with careful consideration given to the detailing. Distinctive local references such as the flint and brick boundary walls were utilised throughout. This scheme is cited as a good precedent in the NFDC SPD design guidence.
